Harbor Pipe & Steel's Innovative, Cut-to-Length Coil Processing Line

Harbor Pipe & Steel was looking for a cost-effective solution to increase its cut-to-length coil processing capabilities and better address the midrange of the market.

An innovative solution, which involved refurbishing existing components for cost-effectiveness, was found by our engineering and machining team at Machine Concepts. The result -- a seamless, modern cut-to-length line at a much lower cost.

A Remastered Cut-to-Length Coil Processing Line

The project began with a contract to remaster an existing 72” x .250” cut-to-length line for installation at the Harbor Pipe & Steel facility in Riverside, Calif.

Our Machine Concepts’ team quickly went to work, engineering a new custom-designed Allen Bradley-based control system for the entire line, which included building and installing new machines where needed, as well as upgrading and refurbishing pre-existing components.

Delivering Speeds up to 150 fpm

At our Minster, Ohio, facility, we integrated controls, rebuilt and upgraded pre-existing coil line components, such as a coil car, dual cone uncoiler, peeler table, Machine Concepts’ G3DC Cartridge Style Roller Leveler with patented Auto Flat® System, along with a drop stacker, stack table and exit conveyors.

New components constructed and integrated with the newly-rebuilt components included a carryover roller table, catenary thread system, roll feed and entry crop shear.

The finished cut-to-length line processes a thickness range of 0.048” to .250” and can process Hot Roll, Hot Roll P&O, Cold Roll, Galvanized, Electrogalv and Jet Kote at speeds up to 150 fpm.
